Reading
Children read every day in school. Skills are developed through explicit teaching of crucial knowledge, phonics and whole word reading strategies. Text are chosen to challenge children and develop their wider knowledge as well as a love of reading.
Class readers and individual readers are carefully planned in to provide children with the words and structures they need to make connections between reading and writing.
Children are taught to read with a structured programme of Jolly Phonics and decodable reader alongside whole class reading in the classroom to support fluency and understanding.
All children are read with across the week in Key Stage One to support their individual development of reading. Key Stage Two read independently and with adults to ensure continued development of reading.
