School Uniform
At Chesterton Primary School, we believe that everyone, both children and adults, should always look smart, be dressed appropriately and take a pride in their appearance. ALL children are expected to wear the school uniform.
Wearing the correct school uniform fosters a sense of belonging for children, it promotes equality and reduces distractions from learning. When wearing the school uniform, every child will act as an ambassador for our school, demonstrating their right to belong, their respect for themselves, each other and the wider community, and a responsibility to be ready to learn.

Dress code
- Red logo jumper or cardigan
- Grey logo polo shirt
- Grey skirt/pinafore/trousers/shorts
- Red gingham summer dress (optional)
- Grey or red plain tights
- Grey, black or white plain socks
Skirts should be worn to a length that ensures dignity. We should not cover up our bodies because they are bad; rather, they are so beautiful that we should dress to reflect our dignity and worth.
Shoes
- Black shoes should be worn
- Sports trainers are not allowed
Wearing trainers all day long, every day can negatively impact children's foot development and potentially lead to further issues. Wearing correctly fitted shoes in school supports healthy foot development and prevents long-term foot problems.
Physical Education and Sport Clubs
- White t-shirt
- Black shorts
- Plain black or grey tracksuit bottoms and jumper for cooler weather
- Football strips are not permitted
- Whilst spare kit may sometimes be available (dependent on loaned items being returned), children staying for sports clubs must bring their PE kit.
This PE uniform can be purchased from any supermarket or shop as there is no requirement for logos.
NB ALL clothing should be clearly labelled with child’s name.
Jewellery
- Children may wear a watch. Smart watches are not allowed due to safeguarding guidance.
- If your child does wear earrings they must be single studs only and children must be able to remove the earrings themselves in order to take part in a PE lesson.
- Other body and facial piercings are not permitted.
NB All children must take part in PE lessons. If your child is unable to remove their earrings you will be expected to come to the school to remove them for them in time for PE lessons.
Make-up and Nails
- Children must not wear false nails as these pose a safety concern.
- Children must not wear make-up including eye-lash extensions.
False nails and certain types of jewellery can pose health and safety risks leading to potential injuries. Long nails cause interference with activities such as PE, practical lessons and even daily tasks making them impractical and unsafe for school.
Hair
- Hair colour should be natural colours only.
- Hair that is long enough to be tied back, should be to prevent injuries and the spread of lice.
If you are unsure whether a hairstyle would be appropriate or not, come in and ask the Headteacher or a member of the senior leadership team before having it done.
